HELP RUDY!
Rudy is a gorgeous 13-week old mixed breed puppy who has had everything short of a normal puppyhood so far. This little man arrived to PRM’s care a few weeks ago. He was handed over to a shelter worker by a man who said “sorry” and then walked out of the building. Rudy’s rear back paw had a large, gaping open wound and he was unable to put any weight on that leg.
GRAPHIC INFORMATION: Sadly, we have no idea how Rudy’s injury exactly occurred, however, we know it was by a sharp object . The bones in his foot were literally sliced right in half by something sharp, and his muscles, vessels and nerves were also cut. Our vet was able to amputate only Rudy’s toes and pads so that he still has full use of his back leg. He’s healing extremely well and is on his way to making a completely recovery.
We’re happy that Rudy is almost ready to have a “normal puppyhood”, and he’s eager too! He’ll happily chew on his visitors’ fingers and hair, loves toys and loves to play! He’s currently staying at our veterinary hospital until he gets the a-okay from his surgeon, but hopefully soon he’ll be in a foster home.
As an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Pet Rescue of Mercer relies heavily on your donations to continue saving lives. Rudy’s medical bills are currently at $1200 and quickly growing. If you would like to make a donation towards Rudy’s care, contributions can be made online through our website www.petrescueofmercer.org or mailed directly to us at Pet Rescue of Mercer, P.O. Sweet Sophie has cancer...
Sadly, after a complete workup at our vet’s office, we discovered our sweet girl is filled with cancer. Our vet removed 2 large tumors and 1 small tumor, but she has 20-30 small tumors throughout her coat. Her biopsies came back as multiple mast cell tumors. Unfortunately, this is very typical of the breed, especially at her age. Sophie is also on meds for incontinence that she is required to take for the rest of her life.
Sophie looks great and is doing very well at the moment, and our vet feels she could have several months to a year left of a comfortable life. UPDATE: We are very happy to update that her foster mom has decided to keep her for her remaining time with us, so she does not need to make any more transitions.

TONKA NEEDS YOUR HELP!
We opted for surgery for Tonka, despite the extreme costs of the procedure. We knew this dog came to us for a reason, and we had to try everything we could to save him.
His stomach had already undergone torsion (twisting), but when the veterinarian was in surgery, she discovered conditions were far worse than she had expected. A portion of his stomach was dead and had to be removed. His spleen had also twisted and ruptured, causing massive internal bleeding. Gastropexy was performed so his stomach cannot twist again.
Tonka, 13 hours after surgery
After approximately 6-7 hours in surgery, Tonka pulled through and had a plasma transfusion later that night. BUT he’s not out of the woods yet, and the next ten days are extremely critical.
Tonka is still at high risk for infection and blood clotting, and he is being closely monitored for heart arrhythmias. His protein levels in his platelets have been low, but his heart rate, blood pressure and appetite have been good.

Now, we are asking for your help in saving Tonka’s life. His vet bills are currently $5000 and THEY ARE QUICKLY MOUNTING. As an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Pet Rescue of Mercer relies heavily on your donations to continue saving lives. We desperately need your support for Tonka. Contributions can be made online through our website http://www.petrescueofmercer.org/ or mailed directly to us at Pet Rescue of Mercer, P.O. Box 2574, Hamilton, NJ 08690.
Tonka was surrendered to a local animal shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. He is approximately 20 pounds underweight and he had a condition known as cherry eye, a prolapse in the gland of the third eyelid.
The shelter reached out to PRM for help, wanting to quickly get this scared, extra-large pooch out of the building. We found him a foster home, had him neutered, vaccinated and the cherry eye corrected. He's gone through so much in his short life, and we're determined to get him through this battle.
Throughout this whole ordeal, Tonka has retained his sweet-natured personality. He has won over the hearts of all of the vet techs who are caring for him, and he happily slobbers on any of his visitors.
Please, help us to save this handsome horse of a dog!
