Update on Bella, the baby found in the trash

Our sweet Bella, the puppy found in a trash phile in the alley, is healing wonderfully! Check out her new pics to see her improvements!

Her treatment for the demodex mange is working successfully and her fur is quickly growing back. Our vet and we have also agreed it is in Bella's best interest to not perform surgery on her leg at this time. It is currently healing on its own just fine.

Now all our girl needs is a home for the New Year!

Cindy Lou Who needs your help!!

Meet Cindy Lou Who, here just in time to save the holiday spirit! Cindy Lou is an absolutely gorgeous black pit bull terrier / bulldog mix. She has an adorable underbite, weighs 32 pounds and is just a puppy at only 12 months old. She arrived at the shelter hit by a car and needed immediate surgery to repair her left hind leg. The shelter does not have the facilities for extensive surgeries, and her leg would have been amputated had she not gotten out safely.

Fortunately for Cindy Lou, one of our volunteers fell in love and was determined to save her. After seeing her x-rays, we suspect she may have been beaten and not hit by a car. On December 16 she arrived at our veterinary hospital and we are eagerly awaiting from our veterinarian to hear her prognosis. She will be in need of a foster or forever home in a week or so once she is healing.

We are extremely grateful for the generous donation from one amazing individual for Cindy Lou’s surgery. However, we are still in need for your help in saving Cindy Lou Who’s leg. As an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Pet Rescue of Mercer relies heavily on your donations to continue saving lives. Cindy Lou’s vet bills are projected to be at least $1500 and they are quickly mounting. We desperately need your support for Cindy Lou Who. Contributions can be made online through our website www.petrescueofmercer.org or mailed directly to us at Pet Rescue of Mercer, P.O. Box 2574, Hamilton, NJ 08690.

Meet our sweet senior, Teddy Bear

Meet Teddy, an older black lab mix who was found strolling down the street. A grey muzzle, blind from cataracts and about 11 years old, we scooped Teddy up right out of the shelter. PRM brought him straight to the vet for a senior wellness exam.

This gentleman has already found his forever home with a wonderful woman who knew she wanted to save a senior to give him a great last few years. She saw Teddy and knew he was the one!

14 weeks old and found in the trash pile...

Just when you thought you've really heard it all, you get a phone call about a puppy found in a trash pile in an alley in a bad neighborhood of the city...

Meet our sweet baby Bella, a 14-week old pit bull terrier mix puppy who is the sweetest pup you ever will see. We'll never know why she ended up where she did, but we are so thankful she is now safe with us. Bella has been diagnosed with a case of demodex mange and has started treatment for it. Furthermore, her rear back leg is broken (fibular fracture) and will require surgery. Bella will be operated on on Monday, December 14 and will have a pin inserted to help her heal.

We are asking for your help for Bella's medical care. Bella's vet bills are estimated to be at least $1100 and they are quickly mounting. We desperately need your support and thoughts for this poor baby.

Updates will be posted as we learn more about this little girl.

Kirby, the deaf pit bull, needs a home!

Meet Kirby, the deaf pit bull! He’s neutered, microchipped, up to date on all shots and ready for you to bring him home! Kirby was rescued one day before he was scheduled to be euthanized from a local, high-kill shelter. He’s only 9 months old and full grown at about 40 pounds.

Kirby is looking for a home that understands the needs of hearing impaired dogs and will be able to train him with hand signals. His foster mom has determined that Kirby is able to hear some things, possibly low register sounds but not high ones. She’s still working on figuring out how much he can hear.

Kirby relies on the other dogs in his foster home as hearing aids, and really would love to be adopted into a multi-dog family. He’ll be tested with cats soon. He really is the SWEETEST guy, he loves other dogs and has gotten along with everyone he has met. He has no food or toy aggression and is very playful, loving and affectionate.

Rocky had HIP SURGERY

Rocky is an adorable, friendly and wiggly 6-month old brindle pit bull mix puppy. He was playing too rough with his brother when he dislocated his hip. Unfortunately, Rocky's owners were unable to afford the necessary surgery to fix his hip and were forced to surrender him to the local shelter.

The shelter reached out to us and Rocky has since recieved the surgery he needed. He is still limping, but is already toe touching and well on his way to a complete recovery. His stitches have come out and he is now ready to find his forever home.

Rocky is crate trained, housebroken, neutered and up to date on shots. He is excellent with other dogs and cats and is just a big snugglebug with people.
